InsideData Achieves ISO 27001 Certification, Setting a New Benchmark for Secure Customer Communications

InsideData has officially achieved their ISO 27001 certification. This means InsideData follows the highest standards for keeping your private information safe from start to finish.

Data risks don’t usually come from a single breach. More often, they happen in the gaps between systems, processes, and who has access to what. This certification shows that InsideData has a clear, joined-up approach to managing information security, and can do so reliably as things scale.

From Security Practice to Security Discipline

While InsideData has long prioritised data protection, ISO 27001 formalises this into a globally recognised Information Security Management System (ISMS), spanning people, processes, and technology.

“Achieving ISO 27001 required us to move from good practice to globally benchmarked best practice,” says Rashied Davids, Managing Executive: Electronic Solutions.
“We strengthened governance, tightened access controls, and introduced more rigorous monitoring and audit mechanisms. But more importantly, we embedded a culture of continuous risk assessment. Security is no longer a once-off exercise, it’s an ongoing operational discipline.”

We are shaking things up across every single department.

“The technical changes were important, but the real shift was cultural,” adds Sonja Muller, Chief Information Officer (CIO). “Information security is no longer a function; it’s a mindset. Every employee understands their role in protecting data, and that level of buy-in is what truly makes the difference.

Embedded Security Across the Entire Lifecycle

A key differentiator in InsideData’s approach is that security is not layered on after the fact—it is engineered into every stage of the Customer Communications Management (CCM) lifecycle.

From data ingestion through to final delivery, risks are continuously identified, assessed, and managed.

“From the moment data enters our environment, it’s validated, classified, and tightly controlled,” explains Sonja. “We take a layered approach—combining automated monitoring with structured governance. That control extends all the way through to final delivery, ensuring data integrity, confidentiality, and availability at every stage.”

Managing regulated mail at scale is risky. Full transparency across the entire chain of custody keeps your sensitive records safe and audit-ready.

Technology That Enables, Not Restricts

To support this approach, InsideData has strengthened its technical environment. This includes rolling out tools like Microsoft Purview and upgrading its Microsoft security licensing to enterprise level.

However, the focus remains on enabling business performance, not limiting it.

“Security is built into our platforms, not added on,” says Sonja.  “We’ve integrated advanced access governance, real-time monitoring, and full workflow traceability, so every transaction is auditable. Where others see security as a constraint, we see it as an enabler.”

Strengthening Resilience and Reliability

Beyond compliance, ISO 27001 has enhanced the resilience of InsideData’s infrastructure.

“We’ve always taken a layered approach to security, but ISO allowed us to operationalise it across the entire group,” Sonja notes. “It’s not just more secure, it’s more reliable. We’ve improved system availability, data integrity, and overall uptime.”

We found practical ways to handle older systems that usually stall the certification process.

“Where immediate upgrades weren’t feasible, we secured the environment around them, effectively wrapping them in modern controls while working through a structured upgrade path,” Sonja explains.

Built for Regulated Environments

InsideData’s solutions are designed with compliance at their core, particularly for clients operating in highly regulated sectors, like the Banking and Insurance sectors.

“We design for compliance from the ground up,” says Sonja. “Our environments are segregated, purpose-built, and aligned to the specific regulatory requirements of each client. We’re not retrofitting compliance—we’re engineering it into the solution.”

What This Means for Clients

For clients, the ISO 27001 certification provides independent assurance that their data is handled according to the highest international standards.

“Practically, this means reduced risk, faster onboarding, smoother audits, and complete confidence in how sensitive communications are managed,” says Rashied.
“It reinforces our role as a trusted partner, allowing clients to focus on their business while we ensure their communications remain secure, compliant, and scalable.”

Getting ISO 27001 certified reflects our drive to do things the right way.

“We treat client data with absolute confidentiality across every system, process, and team,” Sonja concludes. “We see it as a privilege to be trusted with that data—and we act accordingly.”

Future-Proofing Through Continuous Improvement

Rather than a one-time achievement, ISO 27001 establishes a framework for ongoing evolution.

“ISO isn’t a milestone; it’s a discipline,” says Sonja. “It forces continuous evaluation and alignment with global best practices. In a landscape where risks and regulations are constantly shifting, that consistency is what keeps us relevant and resilient.”
